From December 16–19, CSG West proudly convened the Western Legislative Academy (WLA) Class of 2025 in Colorado Springs, Colorado, marking the 25th anniversary of this flagship program.
This year’s class brought together 50 legislators from across the West, including participants from Alberta, Canada, and the Northern Mariana Islands, for three and a half days of immersive training focused on communication, negotiation, conflict navigation, and building consensus in today’s legislative environment.
Recognized as the premier training program for legislators in their first four years of service, WLA offers a rare opportunity for intentional reflection and personal growth, equipping class members with tools they can use in their chambers and cultivating a trusted peer network that extends well beyond the Academy.
Since its inception in 2000, nearly 1,000 alumni have completed the WLA program — with many going on to serve as presiding officers, majority and minority leaders, committee chairs, a lieutenant governor, and members of the U.S. Congress.
Led by a faculty of expert trainers, governance professionals, and former state legislators, the Class of 2025 showed exceptional engagement, and we were honored to be part of their leadership journey. A special thanks as well to 2026 CSG West Chair, Utah Senator Todd Weiler, for joining this year’s program.
Class President & Alumni Spotlight
Nevada Assemblymember Angie Taylor was elected by her peers as the 2025 WLA Class President and will lead a session at the 2026 CSG West Annual Meeting in Salt Lake City. We’re excited to welcome her to the CSG West Executive Committee next year!
We also extend our heartfelt appreciation to Alaska Representative Alyse Galvin, WLA Class of 2024 President, for her continued leadership and support during this year’s program.
