Border Health Amid the Pandemic
In order to limit the further spread of coronavirus, the U.S. reached agreements with both Canada and Mexico to limit all non-essential travel across borders. Unfortunately, infectious diseases fail to recognize borders and an increase in cross-border coronavirus cases resulted in border hospitals becoming overwhelmed. This session aimed to facilitate a discussion on how border communities responded to the sudden rise in COVID-19 along the U.S. – Mexico border region.
Moderator: Assemblymember Jose Medina – California State Assembly & Chair, CSG West Border Legislative Conference (BLC)
Speakers:
Dr. Roberto Bernal Gomez – Secretary of Health from Coahuila
Robert Guerrero – Chief of the Office of Border Health within the Arizona Department of Health Services
David Gruber – Associate Commissioner for the Regional and Local Health Operations, at the Texas Department of State Health Services.
