Our Work

The Agriculture and Water Committee provides a forum in which legislators can engage in the exchange of information and ideas on relevant policy topics at all levels of government. It represents state government on key regional and national issues, promotes the importance of agriculture and water concerns, and works toward collaborative solutions to strengthen the west.

The Canada Relations Committee provides a forum in which legislators can engage in the exchange of information and ideas on relevant policy topics at all levels of government. It represents state government on key regional and national issues, promotes the importance of bi-national relationships to states, and works toward collaborative solutions to strengthen the west.

The Education Committee provides a forum in which legislators share emerging strategies for a wide range of education topics. A key area of discussion this year is P-20 education and its relationship to cultivating a strong workforce. Focus areas include STEM, technical education, lifelong learning models, course credit for military service, declining enrollment, social-emotional learning, and research-based outcomes, among others.

The Energy & Environment Committee provides a forum in which legislators can engage in the exchange of information and ideas on relevant policy topics at all levels of government. It represents state government on key regional and national issues, promotes the importance of energy and environmental concerns, and works toward collaborative solutions to strengthen the west.

The Health Committee provides a forum in which legislators can engage in the exchange of information and ideas on relevant policy topics at all levels of government. It represents state government on key regional and national issues, promotes the importance of health concerns, and works toward collaborative solutions to strengthen the west.

The Legislative Oversight Working Group works to provide information on existing legislative oversight practices throughout the West, as well as offering suggestions to improve government accountability, transparency, and responsiveness through better utilization of oversight tools.

The Public Safety Committee provides a forum in which legislators can engage in the exchange of information and ideas on relevant policy topics at all levels of government. It represents state government on key regional and national issues, promotes the importance of public safety concerns, and works toward collaborative solutions to strengthen the west.

The Westrends Board provides a forum in which members can evaluate the direction and velocity of trends impacting the quality of life in the West. In a region that is increasingly defined by rapid change, the Westrends Board focuses on the implications of demographic, economic and cultural trends on policy makers.
